The proper way to wash knitwear made from natural yarns is to do it by hand because the washing machine can ruin the fabric by stretching it or even damage the stitch. If you are doing the washing by hand however you can prevent this from happening. Take a basin and filled with hot water. Dissolve several soap flakes in the water and after this is done add cold water until the soapy water in the basin feels lukewarm. Submerge the knitwear in the water and let it soak for several minutes before taking it out.
Handle Wet Knitwear with Care
After the knitwear had soaked long enough it the water you should remove it gently from the basin while supporting the weight of the garment. Carefully squeeze the soap water out of the fabric of the knitwear while being careful not to wring it out at all. After that rinse the garment by submerging it in lukewarm water and then squeezing as much water as possible out of the fabric.
Drying the Knitwear
Dry the washed knitwear as quickly as possible to prevent the growing on mildew on the fabric or any musty smell that might appear. Most specialists in domestic cleaning in London would recommend to roll the knitted garment into a dry towel and continue squeezing it. Repeat the same thing several times until the knitwear gets as dry as it can or in other words only slightly damped. After that just leave the clothing somewhere to lay flat to dry naturally. Do not dry it on a line otherwise the fabric will stretch under its own weight.
Washing and drying knitwear isn't as ordinary as washing and drying regular clothes. There are certain basic steps that should always be followed in order to learn how to wash knitwear properly.
